· About Us

The East High School choir department is made up of five choirs with a current enrollment of over 200 students.  Through a wide variety of music, ranging from classical to jazz, and pop to world music, students receive vocal training and instruction in reading, notating, listening to, interpreting and performing music.

Philosophy

The music department at East High School exists in order to provide students with opportunities to grow in their ability to express themselves through music. The goal of the music department is to provide necessary instruction and experiences so that students will be able to express themselves through musical activity and develop understanding understanding of musical aesthetics.  Through acquisition of skill in listening, reading, notating, singing and playing, improvising and creating music, students will come to understand and experience the unique human activity of music making in the context of human cultural expression.  Achievement will be measured by growth in the following areas:

 

1. Aesthetic enjoyment and understanding of all styles of music

2. Feeling of competency in musical expression

3. Musical literacy and technical skill
